Traveling from Wisconsin to Arizona. Fun routes/places to see/go to on the way?

I'm driving from my Wisconsin to Arizona this upcoming weekend by myself and was just wondering how I should approach the road trip back. Any ideas on the way i should drive back or places I should go through and see? Prefer mountains and cities over monotonous countryside.
