Tips on photographing hair indoors without a studio?

i am going 2 b photoing hair for my friend portfolio and i will not have access to any stuidio, tripod, lighting or anything. it will just be me and my digital camera 8 mega pixels. how do i get the best effects without the professional bumpth? please help. no web pages just regular standard tips.
